You Tube- Yes or No?

In a recent poll on Parenting.com readers were asked if they thought it was okay for parents to upload videos of their child onto You Tube.

Two-thirds of those who participated said no. The other one-third who said yes, liked using the video website to share videos with relatives who lived far away. I somewhat agree with that, but then my common sense takes over.

As a parent, it is our job to protect our kids. Anything posted on You Tube is available for public viewing. "Public" means anyone & everyone, including convicted felons, sex offenders, & child molesters. You Tube does not censor or prohibit explicit & questionable content.

There are other websites that you can send your video to friends & family members safely & securely & most importantly- by invitation ONLY!

For a small fee, you can subscribe to yousendit.com & send the video through a secure website to only those who you wish to see the video. You could also choose to copy your video to DVD's & mail them. Choose whichever method is most efficient & cost effective for you. Keep in mind that your child's safety is worth more than the cost of postage.

The real question is- do you want an innocent, precious video of your child intertwined with adult or even illegal content? My answer would be a resounding NO! If you are going to post videos of your child on You Tube, you might as well create a myspace account for your 4 year old!
